The Center for Energy, Environment and Sustainability and the Silman Lab at Wake Forest University seeks a landscape ecologist with strong geospatial and remote sensing skills to join the Center for Amazonian Scientific Innovation (Centro para  Innovación Científica <wbr />Amazónica - CINCIA), a multidisciplinary team building scientific capacity to address environmental threats in the western Amazon basin (additional information here). 



The position

The position combines the ability to do state-of-the-art research in landscape ecology with policy implementation in a landscape highly consequential for conservation.  Specific roles include assessments of connectivity and corridors, establishing chronosequences of forest degradation and recovery, and supporting early alert systems for specific anthropogenic disturbances. Research will involve advanced remote sensing platforms and techniques, long-range and long-duration drone-based remote sensing, and high resolution satellite imagery.The successful candidate will have excellent skills in landscape ecology as applied to conservation, and the ability to combine a broad variety of remotely sensed data to address basic science and conservation concerns in the Peruvian department of Madre de Dios and the southwestern Amazon basin. Ability to speak Spanish is an asset.
